Remembering Ben Hurst

By VOM-DT September 2nd, 2010, under Uncategorized

As we reported on Flarah.com, the chief writer and director of SatAM Sonic, Ben Hurst, has died on August 10, after fainting and sliding into a diabetic coma. In addition to SatAM, he worked at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, DC in recent years, managing the exhibits there. However, he always maintained close contact with his fans, giving interviews at SAGExpo, and talking with them in forums. He went far above and beyond what most writers or directors would do. He will be deeply missed, and in the coming days, we will make a memorial shrine for him at mobianlegends.com.

e621.net

It has come to my attention that e621.net, the popular furry art-sharing website has gone down due to the actions of Insane Kangaroo, with a bit of prodding from FurAffinity’s owner and resident artist, Dragoneer.

From #e621 on irc.darkmyst.org (topic: http://pastebin.ca/1929790, courtesy Arcturus):
<Faggotron_5000_Deluxe> But yeah, Dragoneer posts Arc’s request to remove something from his site on WYS, this incites a bunch of shit about getting e621 shut down, IK hops onto this and then shuts the site down on behalf of WYS

Frankly, that level of immaturity and vindictive pettiness is disturbing. That is why we at MobianLegends (and our broadcasting division, VOM-DT – Furry Television) are helping the furry fandom out by rescuing and salvaging as much of the art that we can, and placing it within our FTP server. Please note that much of it is mature, and off-limits to those under the age of 18, or 21, or whichever the age of majority is in your location.

The location to upload/download our data is at http://ftp.mobianlegends.com/yiff/e621rescue/, and can be accessed with either a web browser, or an FTP client like WinSCP. We have about 80 GB of free space and 1.5 TB of bandwidth per month. We encourage the fans of e621 to share their data, and upload it here for others to use, until a more permanent and efficient way of sharing the data (torrents, perhaps?) comes forth. We also have two siterip torrents located in that folder, for people to use to assist e621 and its owner, Arcturus. Please note that we will monitor the FTP server for any illegal content in accordance with the law in the Province of Quebec, as we always do.

Our broadcasting partners at Flayrah.com are also helping us cover this late-breaking story. Please stay tuned to our website for further updates.

Questions regarding our services for e621.net, as well as clarifications and updates to this story can be fielded to admin@mobianlegends.com. Comments regarding this story will be previewed. Any inflammatory or harassing comments (such as demanding vengance against Insane Kangaroo or Dragoneer) will be deleted upon detection. We will not tolerate or condone such behaviour.

UPDATE:

The User “Varka” (owner of furry-themed adult toy site Bad Dragon has stated he intends to take over e621 and host it. This does not affect our commitment to helping the e621 fan community in any way, as our data will continue to be available via FTP and HTTP. We welcome and thank Varka for his offer to host e621, and hope he is able to follow through with his intentions.

Making the Best of a Furry situation!

VOM-DT is in need of new hardware to begin broadcasts. Since we do not have the space on our server for our media, we plan on streaming directly to it via VLC Player. However, our current machines are not up to the task of video conversion and streaming in realtime (due to our connection being unable to handle direct streaming), so we will need at least a dual-core machine to handle the task.
